Potential AI Art Warning

An e621 staff investigation has previously concluded that some or all works from this artist are likely AI-assisted/generated. Please be aware of this when posting works from this artist.

Staff members involved: Lafcadio, Manitka

On 2025-09-22 and 2025-10-01, GenosLad was brought to attention for stylistic consistencies with other artists tracing from AI materials. Separately, Lafcadio made a further mention on 2025-11-05 noting particular characters/species that were common choices for AI-assisted materials, with a note to himself to "take a closer look later". On 2025-11-23, a few of GenosLad's posts were flagged, highlighting various areas with telltale smudges, and coloring that was more consistent with raw AI generations.

After suspicion was repeatedly cast on GenosLad, Lafcadio looked over the artist's gallery in more detail and finally committed to deleting all posts.

Rainbow Dash received an attempt to appeal, and Lafcadio received a dmail from the artist. Both staff members directed them to coordinate a more involved appeal on the Discord server's #private-help. At this time, Lafcadio alerted the artist that it was late in his area and he would not immediately be available to reply.

About 6 hours afterward, early in 2025-11-24, the artist joined Discord and began an appeal offering screenshots of their process. 4 hours after that, Lafcadio received a DMail on the e621 website and forwarded it to the rest of the staff team, then claimed the ticket and began to conduct the appeal.

Although private study of GenosLad's portfolio had already established that there were unlikely similarities to generative works, GenosLad theorized that the reason their posts was deleted came down to part of their workflow where they would draw in a (unnamed) free program, but be unable to save the full-size image, and would resort to using Picsart to perform AI image upscaling. This confession failed to address the actual nature of the accusation.

Lafcadio explained: a good-quality, unredacted recording of their usual art process would be sufficient to establish the legitimacy of their art, AI reference images could be shared as an ai_assisted disclosure, or they could try to establish legitimacy by sharing a high volume of non-AI image references (including potentially 3D renders or VRChat screenshots, which the user was known to have on Fur Affinity), sketches, works-in-progress, or source documents.

Rather than providing the requested materials, the artist started on a rant where they theorized as to the reasons that these accusations were levied against them, theorized that AI models may have been trained on their own work, sang praises of advanced AI images that "even the professional artist can't tell apart", said that "noise and blur" would mislead AI image detection tools, and said they were not keeping records of their "messy sketch[es]".

Lafcadio immediately tried to bring the appeal back on track by establishing that the models their art resembled predated their more suspicious art by years, making GenosLad's claim impossible: 2022-2023 models could not steal from their 2024-2025 portfolio. Furthermore, the advancement of models such as Sora and Gemini was irrelevant, as these newer corporate models lacked the ability to generate furry pornography, and thus were of little utility to a furry porn artist looking to trace AI. Lafcadio additionally stated that AI image detection was not used in the case against them.

At best, GenosLad's confession about using Picsart could have potentially affected some of the odd details raised in their flagged posts, but no mention was made of the sudden change in their art style.

Only after a more direct accusation did GenosLad post a series of four images, with filenames indicating they were saved on the day of the appeal, showing a set of coloring layers for https://www.furaffinity.net/view/63099770: the fourth image was the finished art, the first image was the same art with flat coloring across the body and no background, and the second and third were at different stages of coloring. While these images demonstrated the existence of a layered source file, they could not be accepted as works-in-progress or proof of a human process, merely a traced one.

In response, Lafcadio then posted a selection of pictures from the artist's pre-AI portfolio, showing obvious changes in style, composition, and subject matter.

Hoping to possibly establish the existence of either a 3D scene or potential VRChat screenshots as reference material, Lafcadio sent this message:

https://www.fxfuraffinity.net/view/57523410/
Do you happen to have a reference image for this background? This is immediately after https://www.fxfuraffinity.net/view/57348703/ where you use a stock background, and just before that is a series of VRChat posts.

The artist could not share any such reference image.

At that point, Lafcadio decided that his part in the appeal would be over, failing to establish even a reasonable doubt after questioning. He advised GenosLad to appeal to either Strikerman or Rainbow Dash, or to close the ticket and mark the appeal as resolved.

In response, GenosLad showed interest in appealing to Rainbow Dash, and provided a set of 7 screenshots showing art UI, as follows:

  • all 7 screenshots showed the coloring layers being merged into each other, including the Nightmare Moon image that they had shown off earlier: in spite of having multiple layers for Nightmare Moon, GenosLad merged their coloring layers in this screenshot, attempting to hide evidence of something. In addition, the background layer showed a transparent cut-out of the character, implying that either the entire background had been colored in while leaving a perfect cut-out of the focal character, or they simply deleted the character from their AI-generated source image.
  • one image portrayed Fatigue (Bedfellows) in the style of an average AI-generated furry, sitting in a forest background with no coloring.
  • one image portrayed a male/male Protogen couple having anal sex: the bottom was colored in various shades of blue, with parts of their feet left uncolored, and the entire rest of the image was also left uncolored.
  • another image portrayed an uncolored protogen gynomorph lying on a beach chair.
  • another image portrayed a group of 4 protogen females, on both sides of a protogen male. The characters were given flat coloring, no background existed.
  • another image showed a female squatting wearing a clothing concept for a hoodie, accompanied by text reading "NEW FASHION" and "YEEN OF THE YEAR": as with the Nightmare Moon image, the backgrounds had cutouts for where the character/product would be. In this case, the background was drawn on top of the image.
  • another image showed the same squatting character, joined by a few more uncolored characters wearing a similar clothing concept, clearly also traced from elsewhere.

GenosLad asked to add a friend to speak on their behalf. After that, GenosLad voluntarily left the Discord server before Strikerman or Rainbow Dash could continue the appeal.

Lafcadio made a note to the other staff members that GenosLad had clearly altered the evidence between their two postings of Nightmare Moon, and closed the #private-help ticket since the artist was no longer around to appeal.

If you suspect a work by this artist is AI-assisted/generated, flag the post. Do not make public accusations of AI-assisted art; these will be penalized under Disruptive Behavior.
