tighty whities

Tighty whities is a type of underwear briefs that men usually wear. They are always white (unless stained) and usually tight, hence the name. They usually have a non-zipper fly in the front.

Tighty whities are sometimes considered to be "nerdy" or "dorky" underwear, especially by youth.

Tigthy whities were first sold by the American company Jockey in 1935. This version, a y-front style, sold out in a Chicago store even though the day was very wintry. This style was created by Arthur Kneibler, who saw a picture of a man in a skimpy swimsuit in a postcard sent from France.

Tighty whities were the most popular men's style of underwear in the mid-to-late 20th century in the US, which is why multiple cartoon characters wear them as canon underwear. They gained a dorky reputation in the '90s and the popularity went down in that decade.
